massa casino deck

I’m working on getting you some cool freebies and deals with my BestMagicDeals website. This one I think it’s pretty good…

I’ve been talking to Alex from ExoMagic to give you guys some Massa decks for free since it’s one of the coolest decks they carry on their store.

He told me he’d throw in 6 free decks for everyone who orders at least two of these cardistry dvds, until supplies last.

I got my deck of Massas on Magic Weekend 08 and filmed Valiente with it at David Pedersen’s. These cards are cool for collecting and fans look really awesome.

If you don’t have them or wasn’t sure about where to get them from then now you don’t have any excuses. Go get them, they are free… for a limited time :P

coffeeshop harapan jonathan Harapan and Jonathan Coffeeshop Talk

It’s rare to find an awesome card guy that lives near me. In the past, Kevin Ho used to be that guy.

Now, I discovered that Jonathan Foo (of wecallitshockeffect and Laika fame) lives near me as well. So, we met up at a nearby Starbucks one Saturday afternoon to have a session of magic and flourishes. I managed to film a fraction of Jonathan’s awesomeness and biceps, while filming a whole load of my random stuff.

Song is “Ka Fei Wu” (Coffee Without Milk) by Wu Qi Xian.

Enjoy.

Suzy Wandas – Old School Female Manipulator

Suzy Wandas (1896 – July 12, 1986) was born Jean Van Dyk in Belgium to magicians Charles and Elizabeth Van Dyk. She became part of the act as a child, walking the slack rope and playing the violin while dancing as Miss White Flower.

She was inspired after seeing Talma doing manipulation magic to take up magic and was doing a card and coins manipulation act by the age of 14. She became one of the best at manipulation magic.

After her farther passed away, her brother Louis was added to the act and they started performing as The Three Wandas. She chose a stage name “Suzy” from the popular song of the day If You Knew Suzy.

After her brother Louis was injured in World War I, Susy and her mom kept performing as the Wanda Sisters. When her mom retired in 1936, Suzy continued to perform throughout Europe and later the United States. Susy was able to speak five languages. Her cabaret show included ropes, thimbles, cigarettes, canes, silks, coins, the Miser’s Dream, card fans, and a routine with eight linking rings. She was billed as Suzy Wandas, the Lady with the Fairy Fingers.

Watch above, as Suzy performs card manipulations at Abbott’s 1961 magic convention and in home movies from 1962. Visit the Miracle Factory Site to learn more about Suzy Wandas: The Lady with the Fairy Fingers.

A tutorial of a flourish of mine (shot by Daniel Mckee during the 2010 Blackpool magic convention) which I no longer want to hold on to. It’s perfected, and therefore should be out in the community.

blackpool convention

I didn’t really plan on making a video this year, as I’ve been extremely busy as a film student and freelance DP the last year. However, as I couldn’t resist grabbing a few shots on my Canon 7D (a stills camera that also has a decent video feature if you’re a talented DP) while I was there. When I decided I would do a video, I also decided to keep it short and sweet, so there’s none of that 10-minute-documentary-thingy I did the previous years. To see exactly what I made, you’ll just have to watch it.

As I didn’t have a lot of footage, I used every last bit of good footage that was to be found on my CF cards when I got home. The video was edited this weekend, and the music selection derived from the flight to the UK. I was listening to MA’s newest album, Heligoland, and I figured “I want to make a video to this song some day”, and I was sold.

Ah well. Thoughts, thoughts, thoughts. Please, do enjoy yourself.

Comments are appreciated as always. Full credits in the video.

Card spreads are something that aren’t used much in cardistry videos so I made this vid to show some ways you can use spreads. None of this spreads use the forte flourish.

ramirez Jon Ramirez My reality is my dear

The Premiere of “My reality is my dear”

“My reality is my dear” is the end result of what started off as a dream I had when in Temecula on New Years day. The dream was all about the smooth moving, the soft touch, and the beauty of what a deck of cards can bring us when tapped into that quite isolated from the world mind set. Every tiny detail from that dream was touched on in this video. There purposely is a cinematic approach to this video that I personally feel does justice to my dream. I can honestly say it has been a very fun and challenging experience to make that dream a reality. I hope you find “My reality is my dear” appealing. Thank you for stopping by.

Dream on,
Jon R.

A great card flourishing / fanning routine with some fun fans.

A very simple, yet very addictive false cut.

The music is “What it Means to Be Alone” by The Dear Hunter off the album Act 3.
All music in this video belongs to The Dear Hunter and the other rightful owners, and not me.

I didnt have a tripod with me, so please excuse the shakiness.

I have heard credits for the opener go to:
