A couple of months ago Lee Asher told me he had some “underground” projects going on and he told me I was going to be part of them. Today he has released exclusively through TheCuso.info this little teaser revealing a great secret about the Jerry’s Nugget cards. This is just the tip of the iceberg of what’s to come so stay tuned for more info from Asher here, at TheCuso.info.

Originally printed in Cincinnati, Ohio, by the US Playing Card Company, these playing cards were made for the Jerry’s Nugget casino gaming tables. No one really knows when they were printed. UNTIL NOW!

The box is the hidden key that unlocks the secret to when the decks were actually printed.

In 2008, sophisticated counterfeiters super-saturated Ebay and the world market with fake Jerry’s Nugget playing cards. Even they had NO IDEA about this secret.

If it wasn’t for Lee Asher, the exact year of when Jerry’s Nugget cards were printed would have gone unknown.

Authentic Jerry’s Nugget cards for sale at Lee Asher’s

Lee Asher yesterday officially announced that in the coming year (2009) he will be selling a limited number of vintage Jerry’s Nugget decks. In conjunction with the owner of the world’s largest Jerry’s Nugget playing card reserve, a deal has been struck which will guarantee LeeAsher.com is the only place in the world you can purchase authentic Jerry’s Nugget decks. Once the limited amount of rare decks sell out, there will be no more for sale. While no final date has been released, Asher states he is finalizing a few ‘amenities’ that will accompany the cards before announcing an actual date, price, or total number of decks for sale.

Originally printed in Cincinnati, Ohio, by the US Playing Card Company, these playing cards were custom-made in 1970 for the North Las Vegas casino – Jerry’s Nugget. The now highly-prized playing card eventually sold out in the early summer of 1999. Jerry’s Nugget Casino does not have any plans to reprint the cards, nor could they recreate the process to make them again.

In mid-2008, sophisticated counterfeiters super-saturated Ebay and the world market with fake Jerry’s Nugget playing cards. Random videos starting appearing on youtube from upset buyers. Purchasing genuine decks proved to be a difficult task. While the illegal versions look remarkably genuine, most playing card experts can easily tell the difference because the fake decks are made from cheap cardboard.

Within recent times, the XCM and flourishing community have taken a liking to these pasteboards as well.

Singapore Jam Session 2008

On 26th November 2008, Jenil from Philippines set forth for a journey to Singapore and Malaysia on an epic card expedition, where he encountered the motley crew of Singaporean flourishers that has spammed the internet with their relentless videos, a red sports car, an oblong-shaped building and a big ferris wheel other things.

Featuring in this video are Jaspas who openly announces his email address, Ling who does that swishing thing again, Leon who likes Cerca trova a lot, Jordan who messed behind Ambrose, Ambrose who did J5, Tom who is actually Ming Tjong, Daren Yeow and Huron Low from The Virts who have telepathic skills in synchronising flourishes, and last but not least, Lee Asher who graced the video with some wise words. And, thanks to Jenil on behalf of Singapore Tourism Board and KL.

Jerry’s Nugget Cards at Wikipedia

These playing cards were supposedly printed in the 70′s for the gaming tables, but never saw any ‘real action’. They were immediately sold in the gift store thereafter. The classic Jerry’s Nugget playing cards were made from top of the line US Playing Card Company card stock, that is not available today, which makes the cards much thicker. The U.S.P.C. also used a chemical finish then, which is also not available today – due to environmental reasons.

Jerry’s Nugget playing cards were printed in Cincinnati, Ohio, and then were driven to the North Las Vegascasino via trucks where they sat in storage for many years. The highly prized playing card eventually sold out in the summer of 1999. Jerry’s Nugget Casino does not have any plans to reprint them either.

Dai Vernon, Larry Jennings, Ed Marlo, Lee Asher, Frank Simon, Chris Kenner, Earl Nelson, and many other notable magicians have been seen playing with Jerry’s Nugget playing cards. The playing cards are stiff, hold their form, and are easily manipulated. Flourishers have taken a liking to these pasteboards as well. [...]

David Stone’s Close-up Secrets

This came in from Lee Asher the other day.

It was so good, I asked if it could be shown to my readers. Mr. Asher graciously accepted, and now I’m sharing it with you guys.

To catch you up speed if you’re not on his mailing list, Lee has been discussing tipping. Specifically, what happens if you don’t receive one after a great performance.

Here’s what the email said:

If you don’t get a tip, don’t worry…

Even if you gave your all at the table, flash your pearly whites,
like you were posing for a photo-op next to David Copperfield.

Keep in mind that you haven’t wasted your time because, if nothing
else, you’ve brought good magic into people’s lives. (It sounds
corny, but it’s true.)

In fact, shake hands with the “lead” spectator right before leaving
the table. Hold their hand just a hair longer than normal. The other
tables should think he gave you something!

Without making any noise, bury your hand (the one used to shake)
into your pants pocket as if it were filled with money.

Not that it should be a big motion, but others in the surrounding
area might take notice.

This does two positive things:

1) It makes your spectator feel good that you’ve thanked him for
watching.

2) It really emphasizes to everyone else watching at the other
tables, that a tip was given, and that it’s proper etiquette to
give money.

This ultimate answer is a classy, non-abrasive way to pass subtle
hints to everyone in the restaurant. Try it a few times.

The above tip above was taken from David Stone’s new book called ‘Close-up Secrets’.

Less than a year ago, after filming the two hit DVDs The REAL SECRETS OF MAGIC (vol. I and II), France’s master magician wrote a tell-all treatise about living the life of a magician.

Is a brick of Jerry’s Nuggets worth $1500?

Today i stumbled upon an auction for a brick of Jerry’s Nugget Casino playing cards at eBay.

For those of you that are not familiar with the terminology, a brick means a case of twelve decks of playing cards not the cubic piece of concrete used to build the casino back in the days.

The funny thing is that this so called brick is up for grabs for $1500 (USD) if you buy it now, a hilarious amount of money for any average card punk like everyone of us.

But lets take a closer look at the price…

1500/12 equals $125 for each sealed deck which, considering the prices they are being sold lately, it’s quite cheap actually.

We all saw these decks sell for over 250 bucks each, and we keep seeing this like every day.

Of course you can get an opened pack for much less but if you plan on reselling them in some years this could be your way to start, i mean, it’s now or never.

Lee Asher commented somewhere in this blog that he used to buy these decks for .50 at the Jerry’s Nugget casino back then but now you wont see them for less than $150 easily.

If you dont trust me you can always go to eBay and search for finished items and you’ll see what i’m talking about.
