TheCuso interviews Allan Hagen

“I don’t feel comfortable in front of a camera at all. This is due to the fact that I’m so used to being the guy behind the camera no one ever sees or cares about. At least that’s how I like it. I don’t like attention, but I got a whole bunch of requests to do this interview, so I’m doing it for the ‘fans’.. ”

What do you think about the current flourishing communities in the internet? (t11, dnd ,DN, etc..)
Recently I have got new friends and informaition posting my video clips to foreign sites like Youtube
but I didn’t know whether there were flourishing communities in the internet since then.
Eventhough I don’t know much about their activities, I believe flourish can be close to people and helpful for the technique and diversity by the communities.
What would you change?
This is hard question to answer. I try to think many times and still don’t know the answer.
I just would like to work hard and enjoy it in my field.
Who do you think is the most talented amateur and why?
The question is getting harder :)
I don’t know which amateur is talented and how much effort he or she is puting on.
However, when I see De’vo or Dan & Dave, I can feel how much they have been working hard whether gifted or not. So I respect their originality and passion.
What do you think about my blog?
As you know, I’ve been visiting your blog in short period of time and my English skill is not enough to understand all the contents in your blog. However I am sure that your blog and what you are doing has a positive meaning.
Who would you like to be interviewed next?
I would recommend Dimitri won the CCC 2008.
I have been known him lately. He is very kind with great skills.
Anything else you want to add?
I wanna thank to all the magicians and flourishers with all my heart.

What would you ask Kevin Ho?
Posted on: March 29, 200870 comments so far (is that a lot?)
After initial hesitation, Kevin Ho from The Virts has finally agreed to do an interview for the blog.
In addition to answering the questions I’ve given him, he will also be answering select questions asked by readers.
So if you have a question that you’d like to ask him, please leave it in the comments section of this post.
We will choose the ones we consider most relevant and interesting, so please don’t ask things like whats his favourite lingerie (it’s Pampered Passions.)
In addition, you’ll get your name credited in the video interview if your question is chosen so think twice before you select them.
Please ask only one question per reader.
Good Luck,
Alejandro

TheCuso interviews Daren Yeow
Posted on: September 27, 200711 comments so far (is that a lot?)
How long have you been into magic?
What’s your favourite flourish?
I dont really have a favourite flourish as I do many different kinds, stuff like armspreads, fans, ariels. No doubt these are rare in my flourish videos, but I do them in real life when I actually show laymen this stuff. Not just all Cuts and fucking boring.
Well, I’ll just name one becasue Alejandro wont fucking give it a rest. Lets see.. hmm…. Mockingbird. (What a surprise)
If any, what’s your favourite trick?
Favourite trick, Huron Low’s Making Ends Meet. (Soon to be released in his DVD which was scheduled to have been released 2 or 3 years ago but he seems to be forever working on it so I have no clue when you guys out there will get to see that awesome T&R effect. Actually, I do have a clue… but i think i’d better keep my mouth zipped, dont want to give anything away)
Who would you say is your favourite magician?
Huron Low, It’s always a pleasure to wtach him perform and astound the laypeople he performs to with the bullshit that he does. I’m serious, his magic is really literally, just, bullshit.
How about your favourite flourisher?
Ah, that’s an easy question. Myself.
What cards do you use regularly?
Tally Ho Circle Backs. I really like their design, Very unique. And most of the time the borders are thinner than your usual bikes thus giving u really nice fans, Of course that is partly because of my skill. But yeah, cards with thin borders produce realyl nice fans. They’re also of thinner stock than most decks.
What are you currently practicing?
A cut of mine called ReAnimation
What do you think about the current situations with online magic/flourishing communities?
Well, it’s really boring imo online communities and such. I guess I do visit these online communities to keep myself updated with the things happening in the flourishing community in general, but other than that, there’s nothing else the online communities seem to be able to offer at the moment.
What do you think about Alejandro Portela?
I really honestly think u’re a nice guy. Well, i’ll just say that i can see you as a future Kevin Ho.
What are your feelings towards www.TheCuso.info?
It seems to be a very informative website that is really helpful for beginners and those starting out and having no knowledge at all about Card flourishes and would like to start along this looooooong and winding path of never ending politics between the different communities and flourishers.
Who do you think is going to hit hard in the future?
Alejandro Portela
What are your plans for the future?
I like living one day at a time.
Who would you like to see in the next interview?
Seriously though, Erik Jansson, I’d like a good laugh.
Any last words you’d like to mention?
Thank you for taking the time out to do interviews that might hopefully help other flourishes along the way, though I highly doubt, my interview was helpful at all :P. But if it was helpful, dont forget to send me 20 jerry nuggets to all thoes that felt this interview was helpful.
TheCuso interviews Jonas Haglund
Posted on: September 8, 20072 comments so far (is that a lot?)
Most of you already know him from the forums or for being in like every good flourish video’s credits but here is some info that you might have missed….
“Ladies and Gentleman, allow me to introduce, the One and Only…. Jonas Haglund“
Personal Information:
My name is Jonas, I’m 20 years old and I live in Sweden.
How long have you been into cards?
I’ve been doing cards for over a decade, but not very seriously until 4-5 years back when I made my first order from a magic-shop.
What’s your favourite flourish?
I’m a bit obsessed with Brian Tudor’s “Very Bad Habit” right now.
What’s you favourite magician?
I look up to David Acer. I like his performance style and he’s got lots of nice effects.
How about your favourite flourisher?
I’d go with Huron Low. He’s way ahead of most of us and has a lot of fresh ideas, he never fails to inspire me.
Who do you think is going to hit hard in the future?
I don’t really know what the future has to offer. I’m hoping there’s some people out there like De’vo, who have done their stuff for decades and appears out of nowhere and brings the art to new levels.
What are your plans for the future?
I’m not planning to quit cards anytime soon. I’m starting to get tired of the online-scene though, so I might just become a fly on the wall in the future and observe without actually taking part.
What cards do you use?
I use Bicycles and Tally Ho’s most of the time, I don’t really see the reason of using expensive out-of-print cards. No matter the price, they’re still just pieces of cardboard to your spectators. Might as well treat them that way.
What do you think about the current situations with magic/flourishing communities?
The rivalry between communities is a shame, it would go much more smoothly if everyone was cooperating. I don’t really know what’s about to happen next though, the deal with Theory 11 and such is making future a bit unclear.
That’s about it, if you have any questions, just send an email to jonashaglund@gmail.com.

Theory11 interviews Dan Buck
Posted on: September 1, 2007No comments yet
A: theory11 to me is something special, as I’ve had the opportunity to be apart of its conception, in a small way, from day one. The goal behind theory11 is simple, the mission however is not. theory11 will set a new standard of how magic is created, but more importantly it will teach and deliver the methods needed to perform in front of an audience.
By bringing together the top creatives in the art, theory11 will dominate the industry, as it not only has the talent but the effects… let me say that again, THE EFFECTS. And of course there’s the broad since of history between the artists, who understand the desperate need to advance the art by creating new ideas, concepts, and presentations to allow a new generation of magi’s to emerge with an all new insight as to just what this art form is all about. Why is it different? Never before has an army of this stature gotten together with one unison idea in mind. That idea is theory11, and exactly what it means will be different for everyone.
Q: How many hours a day do you spend practicing?
A: In high school probably 8 to 10 hours. That’s 8 hours non stop practicing. These days I’m lucky to get in 2 hours but I don’t think it matters as I’m ALWAYS holding a deck of cards.
Q: What got you into magic?
A: At 12 years old, I came across David Copperfield’s Dreams and Nightmares TV special. I was hooked, and eventually collected a fast array of magic props — trunks full. Later a came across David Blaine’s first TV special, Street Magic. As a young boy interested in The X Games, this type of magic appealed to me more so then the illusions. I could do it anywhere and at anytime. Long story short, the trunk was soon replaced with playing cards, magic books, and videos. I joined IBM which is where I met Ricky Smith who showed me material by Aaron Fisher, Lee Asher and Chris Kenner. The rest is evident.
Q: What’s your favorite brand of playing cards?
A: I enjoy using White Border Bee cards, Tally-Ho, and Steamboats.
Q: How long have you been performing?
A: I’ve been performing for about as long as I’ve been into magic — 10 years. I should stress that I don’t perform professionally, nor have any intentions of doing so. I just enjoy performing impromptu for small groups with no money involved. That might seem odd considering I could probably make a lot of money performing, but I guess I just like creating and practicing more so than anything. I don’t consider this a job, but rather a hobby with benefits.
Q: What books would you recommend to someone just starting out?
A: The Expert at the Card Table and Royal Road to Card Magic.
Q: Who is your favorite performer to watch?
A: Ricky Jay
Q: What do you see as wrong with the industry today?
A: People, I won’t even call them magicians, have realized that this is a niche industry with a bunch of amateurs willing to buy anything. Everything. Each week dozens of products are released by no-name magicians who will not even be interested in the art in a few years.
What sets theory11 apart from the other guys is the collaboration between established, known magicians. Every artist theory11 works with has been involved in the industry for at least 10 years.
