A little background:
This was shot a couple of days before Magic-Con 2011, and the cards being used is the very first deck of MC2-cards to be opened and used. I wanted to shoot something just for fun, and so we ended up going to the Walt Disney Concert Hall and Griffith Observatory, two stunning locations in Los Angeles. Despite not being planned and just for fun, I’d still like to think it turned into quite a decent video.

Spring Jam 2010 – Cardistry in White

In the spring of 2003 we released a video called Spring Jam. To our humble surprise, it took the magic industry by storm. It started a trend and shaped a new generation of magicians. Card flourishes have since evolved into a visual art of their own with appearances in commercials, television and films from all over the world. A burgeoning community of artists are constantly pushing the limits of what can be done with a deck of cards and a few of the best in the world have been captured for the rebirth of Spring Jam, Cardistry in White.

SJ2010 was produced in collaboration with Allan Hagan, Chris Hestnes, Erik Jansson and Jordan Lapping and filmed on the set of Papercuts in Trondheim, Norway.

PAPERCUTS is a DVD showcasing and teaching Chris Hestnes’ repertoire of card flourishes, created and perfected over the past five years.

The DVD is shot by avid amateur film maker and freelance cinematographer Allan Hagen on professional camera/lighting equipment in spectacular locations in Trondheim, Norway.

Produced by Dan and Dave Buck with help and creative consulting from Jordan Lapping and Erik Jansson, Papercuts is a result of years of collaboration, starting with Allan and Chris working together, making short videos in and around their hometown, showcasing Chris’ flourishes and Allan’s cinematography.

Allan Hagen – Blackpool 2010

I didn’t really plan on making a video this year, as I’ve been extremely busy as a film student and freelance DP the last year. However, as I couldn’t resist grabbing a few shots on my Canon 7D (a stills camera that also has a decent video feature if you’re a talented DP) while I was there. When I decided I would do a video, I also decided to keep it short and sweet, so there’s none of that 10-minute-documentary-thingy I did the previous years. To see exactly what I made, you’ll just have to watch it.

As I didn’t have a lot of footage, I used every last bit of good footage that was to be found on my CF cards when I got home. The video was edited this weekend, and the music selection derived from the flight to the UK. I was listening to MA’s newest album, Heligoland, and I figured “I want to make a video to this song some day”, and I was sold.

Ah well. Thoughts, thoughts, thoughts. Please, do enjoy yourself.

He’s back! I hope you like it!

This was a little something we filmed a couple of days ago. Due to me being busy with studies and other film work, and Chris being busy with work and other business in general, I had not seen him since February at the Blackpool Convention, despite the fact that we still live very close to each other. It was great meeting up again, and we took my P2 + Letus rig for a spin and came up with the following little video. I hope you appreciate it!

Allan Hagen brought Scott and Sean Watters back!

While spending some time in one of my favourite cities in the world, London, in August of 2009, I met my two good, old friends Scott and Sean Watters. Not having met them for nearly two years, we decided to catch up for lunch one day, refreshing old memories and having a good session. Later that day, we decided to fetch my camera and we shot this video.

It should be taken into consideration that this is their first proper video appearance in over two years, and that despite they have not practiced as vigorously and frequently as before, they’ve still ‘got it’ and they would like me to release this video to the public to show that they’re still around. =)

With that in mind, I hope you enjoy it.

All right guys! Finally, it’s here.

First, a little credits correction. The artist “Mogwai” is mistakenly credited where “Explosions in the Sky” should have been. Don’t get me wrong, they’re both fantastic bands – but somehwere during the editing process the actual track used must have been confused with something else…

It’s been one hell of a ride – and by that, I mean it’s been both hell editing this, but it’s also been great times!
I didn’t actually watch it in all of its entirety until I had completely finished it and prepared it for upload, so I was probably just as excited to watch it as you guys!

Well. With that being said, I apologise for the amount of time spent editing such a ‘simple’ video as some of you may think – but any of you out there who have tried editing something from what you consider to be ‘insufficient and bad’ footage knows what I’m talking about. I do however think I made the very best of it, and I’m honestly really pleased with the outcome.

Well.. enjoy guys.
I’ll be starting to work on something really interesting really soon.. Until then, thanks for watching, and good-bye!
