  2. joshmaddocks Says:

    i dont get it? :/

  3. Jeffrey Says:

I think that was a little to intense for me. He probably enjoyed himself though and that’s all that really matters.

Going to post the Bibdaddykane one next?

  4. greenVN Says:

    de’vo not fair
    khale deserve the championship

  5. Nebelfuchs Says:

The odd thing is that the audience seemed to really digg his performance style. And since live performances should be judged how much the audience enjoys it, I think he really deserves the win on this one.
It was too energetic/weird for me personally though.

  6. Ben Woodhouse Says:

I met this guy in person at the Blackpool 2010 Convention- I have never met anyone so passionate about what he does.
    Amazing.

    -Ben

  7. joshmaddocks Says:

i totally agree with Ben, as much as the first half was not for me i cant really fault Neil for his passion.

    much respect Neil.

  8. HÃ¥vard Says:

    I lol’d.. Not just a bit, I laughed hard! What the…?

  9. Miquel Says:

    Best intro ever.

  10. Black Ninja Says:

and thanks Alejandro for blogging it it’s a great honor!

  11. guikatinskas Says:

    love tha michael jackson stuff

  12. tash Says:

haha the place is like an XCM rave lol

  13. Jaspas Says:

The performance really doesn’t glorify Flourishing does it. It kinda makes flourishing look like a joke

  14. BnP Says:

i’ve never seen someone enjoyed himself with cards so much..and to think that this is the final round?

agree that this didn’t glorify cardistry THAT much, but don’t we have all too many people doing that these days?

look like a joke, yes to that to. sort of like a HUGE bloopers segment at the end of a DVD. still, who doesn’t stay around for that part?

  15. Taylorduce Says:

well…i must say..there is a huge difference in XCM and Cardistry…I am really really starting to see that now. haha. i prefer cardistry…that kinda was…..stupid…looking..

  16. dimitri Says:

well, that dude does have some serious skills… and even thou i doin’t like his performance style, the audience seems to like it, that’s what matters in a live performance…

  17. Dllusion Says:

i don’t like the style, sorry

  18. Shoeman Says:

he had fun, the audience had fun and he didn’t suck, beat that.

  19. Doc Kelly Says:

I think that cardistry took five steps backward with this vid. I am sure that the Black Ninja is both skilled and passionate but both were not displayed here. What I saw was clumbsiness and a total lack of the class that other artists are striving for.
This was like watching bad wrestling compared to skilled footy. I have no idea what the crowd was cheering at or about.
I am sorry for being so much against this particular video but there is so much good, creative work to watch and I know to come in the future, that this exhibition truely bothered me.

  20. Aristote Says:

OH MY GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD. THAT WAS LAAAAAAAAAAMMMMEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE. GGGGRRRRRRRRRRRHHHHHHHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

    SUCH A WASTE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
OK seriously, what kind of drugs are you taking ?

    I second Doc Kelly…….TWICE

De’vo really does too much damage, somebody stop him…..PLEASE.

  21. Ben Woodhouse Says:

Right, many people who have criticised this video have seriously missed the point that cardistry is meant to be entertaining and it sure sounds as if the audience were entertained to me.

This is advancing the art- this video was Neil’s style NOT De’vo’s before we get into the inevitable politics discussion with Cardistry and XCM.

We all know how hard uncut routines can be- then try doing that on stage in front of an audience, then blindfolded- he has serious skill.

    Respect.

    -Ben

  22. Miquel Says:

    Brash, bold, transgressive. Different.

    I like it.

    -Miquel

  23. Dk Says:

    Mr woodhouse is totally true!!!!!!!!

  24. Jonas Says:

That guy’s got some big balls for pulling those things off for a crowd. Major hats off from me.

  25. Doc Kelly Says:

Ben, please explain more fully. The audience was certainly entertained. The question is if they were laughing with him or at him.

Cardistry is quickly becoming an art form. Like all art forms there are those who are serious and those that are not. I think Ninja is serious.

I think if he had added choreography and rehearsed the act a little more this would be a mute discussion. I stand by my earlier statement.

I realize fully the pressures of performance. These pressures are eased by serious practice of the individual moves combined with serious rehearsal of the finished routine.

Moves were there…the polished routine was absent.

  26. Ben Woodhouse Says:

    Doc Kelly,
The crowd were blatantly cheering for him and very clearly at moves such as the double armspread and catch and vertigo.

I personally see a structured performance- the pure manipulation act at the beginning to music, followed by the short Michael Jackson bit where he choreographs his performance to music (keep in mind he had used this in an earlier round and De’vo gave it a lot of praise in the itricks clinic) then by a blindfolded sequence with card throwing at the end.

  27. Jaspas Says:

The crowd was high on the same thing he had I guess.

  28. Joshua R Says:

Many of the Cardistry videos that are in the web are isolated movements with a good video editing, that’s the easy way. This guy has the balls to create a routine and perform in front of an audience, even if that’s not the best performance it’s something that few people can do.

  29. Aristote Says:

    @Jaspas XD You said it!

    Mr Woodhouse,
DON’T YOU JUST SEE IT DOESN’T FIT, OR WORK OR WHATEVER YOU WANT TO CALL THAT…
Ok this guy works hard, he is very skilled, but work alone is not enough. I’m sorry but this kind of presentation / staging does not work with XCM, this is just not suitable for it.
Seriously, look closely at his performance, he looks like an idiot who agitated himself on stage for reasons that everyone ignores. He looks like an autistic, his perf. is not fluid and it doesn’t makes sense. In summary, this guy is very good but his presentation is sucks.
Regarding the first part, well … it looks like a bad parody of the 80s.

  30. Tarvi Says:

    Well done Niel.

Again, like some of the others I met and jammed with him at Blackpool, and he is totally committed to his way of working. I think the energy he gave off, and the obviously risky moves he chose to perform won the audience over.

Props to you mate, for now being one of those who has actually done what very few have!

  31. MonscterC Says:

OK!!! thats it!!!! i quit flourishing!!
i dont want to get to the point were i become this guy.

  32. menik Says:

    didn’t really like it.
frankly, all that jumping and kicking in combination with the music made me feel a little embarrassed… you know, that curb your enthusiasm-feeling.

nevertheless, judging from his past videos, I actually think he got some skill, but imho flourishing does not belong on the stage AT ALL. do walk-arounds!

  33. Conner Says:

Dayummmmmm, he sawed that wood like a champ!

  34. Philip Says:

were you fucked on ecstasy or somethin? lol

  35. tontonsurf Says:

    I’m a french Magicien :)

    It’s fantastic !!!!!

sorry for my english… i speak lihe a robot :)

I love this man, it’s the first time that I see it !!!

It’s better for a public magicien than a “normal” public, but for me is very original and delirious !!!

    Big respect for BlackNinja !!!!!

    tontonsurf

    ps: and i give U a big 5 to all Magiciens !

  36. trashmanf Says:

wow, that was very energetic. I think the flourishing/karate/riverdance hybrid work is definitely original, but it was a bit like tourette’s syndrome when it happens so fast, my only criticism would be to slow it down in some parts, and add giant fans , long sequences of tumble cuts and deck twirls on stage just look likes you’re rubix cubing up there, overall a good job 4 stars ninja dogg

  37. Chozodragon Says:

This is some extreme card manipulation indeed.

But not art. In any way. Sorry.

  38. Gabusai Says:

LOl whats not to like . the intro was funny and the performance was entertaining ive watched this vid alot before and i still find it entertaining
