Ekaterina Dobrokhotova (BabycatXD) was recently banned from Handlorz for doing this demo video with the arcane deck.
She was clearly one of the strongest participants in the XCM World Tournament this year.
Who do we blame? Those cool looking Arcanes or guys that think every day of the year is Halloween?
Anyway, I dont’t feel sorrow at all, I’m happy that she’s now going on her own and makes good use of her critical mind.
Now it’s time for you to speak out your mind.

I can’t express my anger at the Handlordz “community” enough.
You all worship De’vo, yet he pulls stupid stunts like this on someone you all love and admire! I’m sure your opinions of Kate will change according to De’vos, and that saddens me even more.
Somehow De’vo saw a Tweet I made to Kate sympathising with her, and by the evening of the same day, I was banned from HLz also.
HLz isn’t part of the art, De’vo, it’s a clique… and it’s not useful to anyone.
I mourn your desision to ban Kate, you’ll regret it in time to come.

Hmmm weird. Even through making good videos that make other HLers (including the founders) look bad is a classic banning reason on HL, I’m kinda surprised that Kate got banned just now. I though Ellusionist was the only company brave enough to still do business with them.
I suspect that HL got pissed when E didn’t ask them to do a demo video for the arcane deck.
Or maybe it’s because Kate is friends with some of the ‘Haterz’ (which got banned for similar retarded reasons). Well, you can’t really know what’s going on in their heads.
Anyway, way to go Kate, keep it up :)

Kate, I thought your performance on the arcanes vid was awesome! I’m not sure what you call it, as I’ve never seen it before, but the armspread to tower thing you had, that was very cool. It’s too bad about the ban, but I’m sure you’ll flourish *bad pun* without them.

lol it’s kinda funny they ban her only when it’s clear she doesn’t need them anymore for anything as she does plenty of live perfs and has already built herself a good skill level and reputation… unlike some who are all talk and have to clumsily create the illusion of everybody liking them via censorship… the ban would probably have been more “useful” a year ago…

I’m very sorry for your being banned Kate, but you guys are not telling the whole story. Perhaps Kate can enlighten us as to the last communication that she had with HL as to why she was really banned?
It’s interesting how this went up so quick after it happned, but no mention on this site about the current benefit sale that’s up on handlordz to raise funds for a member in need that’s been going on for almost a week now. Show me another card manipulation community that has done something like this. That wasn’t newz-worthy though was it? Wouldn’t generate enough “views” or “posts” to meet your fucking quota…amazing!

The ‘whole story’ probably includes De’vo threatening Kate that she would get banned if she didn’t credit him or say that one of her moves was done by him in the late 40′s. We’ve seen too many creative people being banned for nothing (Andrei, Tical etc.), to still listen to your pathetic attempts to justify your random usage of the ban-hammer. It’s always the same… Blind follower who doesn’t ask questions and says yes to everything = good member, People who think for themselves = BANNED.
About Cancer-Sale: Weak attempt to generate some positive attention towards your community. I’m sure Alejandro would’ve happily blogged it, if you guys had asked him and if the guy receiving the money wasn’t a total asshole who has been a prick to anyone outside of HL.
@1234: Even though I see the similarities between HL and the German Nazi party (or any other brainwashing, oppressive sect/organization for that sake), it doesn’t really fit here. For example: The Nazi propaganda was well though-out and perfectly executed and fooled millions of people. HL propaganda on the other hand can’t even fool a 10 year-old.

Alright, so here is some enlightment before everyone goes on a tangent about reasons that are not existent…
De’vo could have chosen to make a video for the Arcanes as well, but he had a thread up on Handlordz saying that he no longer supports them and will ban anyone supporting them. Why not support them… well maybe because cuso is not very liked and me and the other party both communicated with cuso, making us first class haters.
I tried to reason with the other side… I was always respectful to the members and always admired their routining style. I still wish them all my best and I just hope that my current friends at HL will not get banned for talking to me…
I think taking sides is ridiculous and I am not owned by anyone… so I carried out my commitment for the demo. I thought we had it settled about the fact that I am doing it and I still was through submitting for round 3, but I guess De’ still chose to respect his word and do as he said he would in his initial thread.
I am surprised Angela doesn’t get banned…oh wait she doesn’t go on handlordz forums. She still did it… I have entered the world of showbusiness knowing that people are looking for their own benefits, but I have to repeat myself…I am not owned by any individual. I care about the art, not about ego.
After this post, everyone talking to me will definitelly get banned.

No I did not say he “chickened out” don’t make me sound like a hater lol De’vo’s spies aleary caught me saying something I guess on Andrei’s clinic…if they call talking shit saying on the clinic that ” I better not say anything about De’vo or else I might get banned” then yeah I did say that …other sources, well unless the friends I thought I have are not very good friends and have been talking to me for the soul reason to catch me say something bad about the lord…
I dunno but I have better things to do…like practicing because I have not taken my pension yet so I don’t have time to browse a forum unstop and search for hate messages. I wish I was banned earlier so we ould have avoided all of this.

the HL benefit sale… I think it’s really low to use some poor guy’s health condition to try to give a good image of themselves (yet another fail : they only fool their own members they wouldn’t need to fool…) and get rid of dirty items they couldn’t sell anyway, that are probably getting costy in stocking fees… (really, selling 3 copies of a book to someone who already has it anyway ?)
Oh and don’t be fooled, it’s not like they would have helped any of you pathetic followers…
therefore i’m relieved other communities are not promoting such lame and good-manner-lacking behaviour.
I agree with nebel about webghost… the guy is one of the lamest people I could witness, and cancer will not magically make him a great guy… Don’t feel so bad webby, I still “like” you for depicting how HL level is pathetic… I mean, where else could a guy with such health condition be among the best ? lol…

Devo doesnt support anyone that uses “cardistry” as the name for this art because he sees it as a hater term after richard z made it. He wants you to use “XCM” because he coined it, and he is a corporate whore. Hes in it for money and hes wanting all of the credit. I credit brian tudor and chris kenner for the cardistry art. I have no respect for devo or handlordz, and kate is better off without them. They can read this for all i care and they can shove their “XTREME” bull crap up their ass. We can manipulate cards however we want, and call it whatever we want. I love the cuso because its friendly and provides free tutorials, and is not just one big corporate scheme. Thanks to the cuso and everyone that sees how wrong handlordz is.

So the main thing we can take from this thread is:
#1: The majority of people who visit Alejandro’s blog/site are open minded and really care about the art… namely, flourishing/cardistry.
#2: The majority of people who visit Alejandro’s blog/site dislike the attitude of De’vo, yet are bound to accept him as a great “XCM” artist, because we can’t ignore what he has put into the card scene.
I can’t believe De’vo never saw how little effort it would have taken to bring the (REAL) community to love him in the way he should want.
Again “De’vo”, it’s not us… it’s you.

Well it’s not like Kate needs those people anyways, she’s probably already done more manipulation shows than devo has done in his lifetime (even though that number may be less than 10.)
Also on the subject of the art I’m much more for people wanting to get into it however they want and take any path.
I think making people take an oath to be loyal to a guy in a cloak, just to participate in an ART, is pretty silly. She’ll still flourish either way, and Handlordz most defineatly does NOT have the most active members of anything, hopefully someone better suited like Ryoma can explain their ‘currently active members list’ (lulz).

Geez Ryoma and Nebel…regardless of what you think about Web, that seems a bit harsh no?
But to get to why Kate was banned it sounded like she was saying that there was another reason for it? Something about what she said on Andrei’s interview about not wanting to be banned by De’? So does this mean that this particular video might not have been what got her banned? Whether everyone thinks it was unwarranted or not I would think Cuso would want to make 100% sure he was reporting what happened exactly, now it sounds like there was potentially another reason.

The activity thing was a little weird (I’m sure Ryoma would love to tell you how you should have phrased that) but I think I understand what you mean…except when it comes to journalism, then the label does matter, especially for the Cuso. Maybe this blog post should be titled “The vid that MIGHT have got her banned”?

I don’t know much about cardistry, so naturally I don’t know anyone named here. But just looking at the video and some of the comments (and gathering an understanding of where the money is going, etc) I can see some obvious corruption here.
Ekaterina is beautiful, and her work is beautiful. I’ve always been more into magic but I found this video very nice.
I think anyone with a place in the cardistry art that would let her go, especially for such trivial reasons, needs to rethink their priorities.
And since Cardistry is a blossoming art, I think I should mention how many of the arts got better when childish boundaries like these were broken.

Well, if Handlordz banned Ekaterina for making an Ellusionist video, that’s just fascist on one hand and no way to run a business on the other, and even if what the Handlordz people said on the xcmblog is true–that Ekaterina was “talking shit” about De’vo– then the Handlordz people sound like the little babies who run the North Korean government who throw tissy fits if anyone criticizes their glorious leader, and banning people like Tarvi for tweets is just insanely totalitarianistic. I say all the participants in the current Handlordz tournament should refuse to submit entries to teach these idiots a lesson. Handlordz can’t ban me because I ban myself in protest. :-)

Sorry Alejandro, I wasn’t trying to polarize, I’m just trying to get it straight in my head.
I know many of the XCM guys are really good people, but they still tend to submit to De’vo, which makes me even more sad and confused, as they’re sensible and tallented guys! :-)

this videos’ got some unbelieveable style – comments should be about how great kate’s routine and moves were! Its also significant that the biggest card company is contacting her to promote their product. a lot of new magicians are surfing Ellusionist, watching the Arcane card videos and flipping out when they see this one :-D instant convert from magic to flourishing!
being banned from HL happens a lot (3rd time for me now) but I will really miss Jerrys forum posts though! He always had the funniest titles that were totally unrelated to the topic.
Ryoma, I’ve met webghost he is a nice guy with some mean chops (hell fast ring on too) we should all hope he gets better soon!

@Captain Feathersword: Re. cancer sale. Lots of other sites have done this sort of thing: Magic Cafe, Spookclub, Waynehouchin.com, penguin magic, to name a few.
I remember a friend who got banned because he was doing the ‘birdy’ (I think it’s called- where you fan the deck and balance it on your finger). An old lady saw it and said “oh look the Gamblers Rose! I haven’t seen that in years.” Turns out it’s not a De’vo original. Needless to say when he shared that in the forums that it wasn’t original to De’vo – he was banned. lol

@jtmorris: I looked up the gambler’s rose on google. it turns out that it’s just a card fan. it has nothing to do with the balancing part of the birdy fan. but if you don’t beleive me go to google images and look it up. you’ll find at least four images that look like a spiral or a card fan

The reality is it’s all a bit mundane. All of it. Them, you, cardistry, XCM the whole 9 yards, it really serves no purpose. It’s showing off, plain and simple. No one likes it but you guys and no one ‘gets it’ but you guys. Think of all those hours and hours hours of your precious life you’ve wasted! and for what? so you can juggle some cards around? You’ll never get those hours of your life back, ever.
I hope you all see sense soon and start to enjoy life.
