“Secret Books of De’vo” leaked?

The recently released “Secret Books of De’vo volume 1“, containing four of his underground concepts, has been spotted for sale on eBay.
That auction sounds like a great opportunity for those who missed their chance to get one of the 100 copies first, be it because they haven’t been online for the past few months or just because they “didn’t qualify” to order it.
Maybe an even better opportunity for the seller? Answer in 9 days.
On that topic, someone you probably have seen write a lot on my blog’s comments is preparing a review to be published soon here at .thecuso, stay tuned.
Do you think selling this on a public place like eBay where anyone can buy it is a good idea? Even knowing it was at first released to a selected few?

he’s from belgium… so… possibly de’vo pulling an ellusionist and bidding on his own product (black ghost btw) so when they make second editions he can say “the book easily commanded up to $100,000 on ebay” and justify the second book at some outrageous price.

Funny how the bidders all have *** in there name. My guess is a certain group of haterz bought the book while it was avaliable in the store and they put it on ebay. The price suddenly goes from 1 cent to 80 bucks.

LOL just like sean and a bunch of people on DN, I think it’s obvious de’vo is selling it himself (poor little HLers who are afraid of commenting here using their real name most likely wouldn’t dare selling such an “underground” item as it’s numbered and big De’ could know they disrespected his work and ban them LOL).
Selling it himself just to bid on it and “sell” it high and then brag about it on his forums (“superhandz cdrom sold for 700$ !” rings a bell ? hahaha), hiding the truth on his dear forum, hiding the fact most people outside HL just don’t care about what he pretends he can do using a bunch of still pictures. Do a search for “secret books” on DN and see for yourself.
Oh, and do a google search for “ebay private listing” too. LOL

and I suppose he faked all 100 preorders that sold out in two days? and the 70+ preorders for the next book that aint even out yet. you guys may hate de’vo for his attuide but to deny his published work is in demand is ridiculous.

I’ve never said he faked the pre-orders… taking one argument, pushing it to the extreme and pointing out the fact the result is nonsense usually doesn’t mean the argument was nonsense from the start, but rather the way it has been pushed to the extreme is.
I just said that outside of HL (which is 90% composed of people who are totally new to the art hence not holding good knowledge of what is done card-wise etc) the demand is pretty much absent. All the examples you’ve taken come directly from HL.

I’m not gonna start the whole quotes thing here or else we’ll get darian making his rhetoric 6-page spiel again, but to comment on the fact that his published work is in demand (and that’s a fact, eh*) ; 100 preorders selling in two days is really nothing compared to if d&d put out a product, it sells 100 copies in a few minutes.
I don’t seriously consider 20-40 y.o. noobs 7 months into the art that have cash to burn saying

I can’t be sure if the book is real but at least the bids are, mainly because i’m on the lead. I missed my chance and now i’m really interested in your concepts.
Private bids are pretty common on ebay and about the shipping thing, a lot of sellers offer free shipping worldwide.
i constantly buy and sell stuff on the internet. i get packages from china to spain every week with no cost at all. if you want an example i’d suggest dealextreme for tech stuff.

There’s so much illicit ‘logic’ to put a hole in in that post its ludicrous. So first off it’s supposably a fake book because it’s from belgium and no books were shipped to there… fair enough, but then that turns out to not be true, since the seller is actually from the US, and yet the same arguement stands that the book is fake?
The reason there isn’t any pictures of that particular copy of the book is because the seller can’t show the cover/back of his own copy because it’ll have the book# on it, which de’vo will see and easily figure out who on the forums ordered that copy and ban them.
After the part about the belgium bs, the rest of it is completely redundant, I guess he needed to extend the message to a paragraph for it to be legit since he repeated the same thing several times and after no real evidence at all in the post: “it must be a scheme”
Think about it, why would he say the book is fake? Because he already gave an opportunity to every loyal hl’er that wanted one and they all took like 3 copies, now he knows the only people getting the book will be ‘haterz’ so and he desperately doesn’t want them to buy it so he came up with all that crap.
Keep bidding whoever is bidding, if it’s actually a fake, which it defs most probs not is, (if you got that) then you can always just dispute it with paypal, very easy to get your money back through there if someone nazi’s you.
I don’t get where he got the fake bid thing from either, have you two [devo and jamal] actually used ebay before? The ** always crossses off most of the bidders names for *obvious* reasons, figure it out.

I actually got my money back from paypal from a canon hv30 i bought at ebay. Only the box came in the package, either the seller didnt send it or it was stolen. I reported the police and paypal and i got my money in 5 months.
Maybe the seller could put some of the pictures inside the book as proof, without revealing anything of course. But yeah, that would probably upset the creator for exposure.
If I was selling a product I wouldn’t like this kind of stuff myself. If you win the bid i’d suggest you to email de’vo to tell him the serial number. That’d be the correct thing to do.

Alright I’ve come to the conclusion(thanks to ryoma’s vid) that the seller is indeed a hater. Also he has close connections to the fwa guys. Why wear gloves? WHy not skim through the pages? It’s obvious this is bs. Cuso you said you had the higgest bid yet all the bidders accounts all have ***** in them. Well if anyone wants to get the book then go a head and bid on the item. It’s your money and you can do whatever you want with it. But I’m assuming the whole “devo is selling a copy on ebay for money” theory is over since he announced to everyone not to get the book from ebay.

Riding a moral high horse isn’t working here. You can’t tell people not to pirate this stuff when you don’t provide an alternative for them. And paying 100$ for something they got no idea if it will be good or ‘for them’ is not an alternative. Let alone that all books are sold-out and only available for even higher prices now.
I usually check new CDs online before I buy them. It’s just like listening to the CD in your record shop
to see if you like it, or better, if you like it enough to buy it and support the creators. And I got easily over 300 (original) CDs.
Nothing like that was possible for the book. People only got out-of-this-world reviews and were told it got ‘Motions’, a concept that was hyped for almost a decade. Why not make a short trailer that shows some basic settings that would really give people an idea on what they’re spending their money on? You could still publish the book with the advanced aplications and all the stories behind the moves.
I checked the pdf and it definitely is not for me. I would be terrible disapointed if I had payed 100 bucks for something I won’t use.

lol I can’t believe I actually forced myself to read all the book. I now totally understand “….” and other fanboys’ reactions.
The text is lame… when it doesn’t sound like some descriptive stuff ruined by some unpopular teenager fantasy (“as I was looking for a grip demons whispered in my ear!”), it’s filled with nonsense of a dumb guy trying to sound smart (“this move basically uses physics” hahahaha which move doesn’t ?)
But that text does have a purpose : read between the lines, it’s a brainwash ! There are always words about how you’re lucky to be amongst the few who can read this, about what you should think of the concepts, and how “if you don’t like it then you’re not an artist” in a more or less implicit way along the pages… not providing information before buy and then making the reader responsible of his disappointment if any is a typical scammer behavior.
It’s damn funny to see guys like “….” basically rewording the exact same arguments found in the book, even though they don’t fit the context, it’s just like de’vo would have told them what to say (yeah,I also would be too ashamed not to hide my name too if I were writing like this).
In a sense it amazes me how some people can be dumb enough not to read between lines and just act along such badly programmed behavior.
Is there something to do about it ? No. It’s useless to argue with such people, more than everything they WANT to BELIEVE in BULLSHIT, they need some fantasy of power they can only get at HL.
Yes, HL is pretty much a sect (oh and before you attack me for having said this, I did ask one of my parent’s friend, who is a sociologist specialized in sects, for confirmation on that matter lol and as I thought, it’s obvious HL shares a lot of similarities with sects), and I think you all know it’s not easy to take someone out of a sect.
So, let the idiots die as idiots, as long as they waste their time working on such basic stuff I know I won’t be threatened on my favourite field of card manipulation.
So yeah, I didn’t like the material… it was “not for me”… and to simple-minded boys it means I suck ? I suck because I expected skill from someone who is constantly bragging about his fictive achievements ? I suck because all I saw was fantasies, overhype and a VERY BAD magic effect as a closer ?
(hey De’, when a move is not impressive skill-wise, you don’t have to call it a magic trick… it just shows how bad you are at magic and audience management… your “geist” effect with ring was nothing more than a bad application of my “interlaced ring on” I had the decency to present as a “joke”… my “sealed ring on” is a magical effect… see the difference ?)

I see your point dancedany. If it would only be for us (talking about guys that are in the artform for some time and know what’s up), it wouldn’t be a problem to just ignore him. But I think it’s important for new guys/beginners to speak about this kind of stuff so they don’t get brainwashed by the HL propaganda.

Dancedany : that’s because people think like you that someone has to tell the truth. You have enough skill and knowledge about structure work to notice that all de’vo ever said about them (ex:”the more packet the more stable”) is wrong, and that’s unfortunately just one little example as structures is definitely not the only field he has only the basics for. I’d be the first to admit he has skill the day he shows some. I’ve seen far better stuff in random members videos than his. And he definitely doesn’t love card manipulation as much as we do or he would train some more. 40 years for a mediocre level every noob gets in 1 or 2 years is hard to achieve even if you’re a slow learner. The only difference is the noobs train more and talk less about what they supposedly can do (except people like Darian and the results are there : they stays noob for longer and longer…)

Many years ago i released a video with my trisd inside a square one handed and only a picture of a backpalmed triad that recently has been released by De’vo.
When i released the vid i was banned from the superhandz forum because HE said that the scupture and the backpalmed triad were already in the underground book etc.
I said OK, show me at least a picture or something to proove that you indeed invented this stuff before me and i will never make it public,…but nothing.
By the way THE FLIPBACK that De’vo added in he’s DVD…i saw it in an old french magic video from 1982 if i’m not wrong.
So who invented it?

He’s always doing nothing but talking, claiming moves from members, and if you ask for proof, you get banned. Members who get to stay have to say everywhere what they are doing is from de’vo, just like that flipback triad vid you’ve talked about. It wasn’t released by De’vo but by Digital Artist. But as you told it “de’vo released it”, that’s exactly the purpose it was made that way, so people remember “de’vo” and not “digital artist”.
But well, you should be glad “teh ultimate underground masterz” is claiming your work, it shows you have skill he wishes he had. Hard to believe he can do any advanced structure when all he dared showing in all these years was a bad triangle and a bad square :/ He always want to be perceived has the best, if he were he would post vids instead of doing all these sneaky maneuvers… that’s pathetic

just to clarify, de’vo invented Self Standing Structures, not structure. And none of ryoma’s move are self standing, so crediting the concept to devo is wrong : shape with cards HAVE been done way before. Actually i think the only “concept” that devo really invented is fire and water elemental.

Also for people complaining about the material on this book, I just have to say that these moves are concepts and not full lenght moves. It’s just like the card in fan concept. the card triangle has been done before I guess as the double-charlier definitely isn’t created by de’vo (it’s featured in the flourishing 101 of trilogy dvd set isn’t it ?) and the triangle is just a pause during the formation.. also on that old “houdini king of cards” poster you can see him holding 4 packets in one hand, the upper part looking like a triangle…
lol and our dotted friend (I love his nick, you read it and you know what there’s in his head) probably forgot de’ring which was done before by Johnny Ace Palmer and others… if Geist concept is what is described in the ring chapter of his book; then I fear it’s an already overused concept when it comes to cards, the best application being the famous haunted pack (oh damn even the name is a ripoff then ?)
It’s natural people have no knowledge in magic field or “cardistry”(by cardistry I mean card manipulation outside HL) field as de’vo just keeps his members away from such information source so he can make them believe he’s creative (not keeping them away as explicitly as before, though… now it’s a bit more subtle, maybe he took some classes in psychology ? I don’t know…).
Calling him creative is kinda ironic when the 4 “prized and famed concepts” of the book have all been done in past videos from various people (including a very noobish video of mine I’m definitely not proud of, maybe my 2nd ever… I was forming a guitar shape with the cards and played it and you could hear a guitar lick at that moment… now you know why I’m not proud of it, right :p but now it’s a killer underground “transformation concept” wow… lol but that won’t change my mind about it, it just plainly sucked, that’s just a bad joke rather than a skill demonstration, no matter how good of a scammer you are or how many ‘ you have in your name).
