Open Discussion – Turning Card Flourishing into Magic

There came a turning point a few years ago when I wanted to try to streamline my magic a little. I loved using story tricks back then, and my friends were complaining that my tricks were too draggy.

I realised that doing card flourishes might somehow help me with that, because if I incoporate my magic with flourishes, I would somehow be forced to talk less. (Don’t ask me how my twisted mind managed to justify that.)

So, I got really interested in flourishing, wanting to find out how I can incoporate flourishes into card magic wthout “losing magic’s impact”, as most magicians would argue. They would say that flourishes make magic less “mysterious” and laymen would think it’s just “fast hands”.

I’m still not quite sure how to argue back, but I am having a ton of fun doing flourishes for laymen in between my magic tricks. It establishes credibility instantly, and flourishes has that quality that makes people to think “Wish I could do that”.

This routine, Fourish, is a simple multiple card location routine which uses many of my favourite flourishes. It’s more of a framework than a trick itself – you can jazz in and out of it by yourself.
