This came in from Lee Asher the other day.
It was so good, I asked if it could be shown to my readers. Mr. Asher graciously accepted, and now I’m sharing it with you guys.
To catch you up speed if you’re not on his mailing list, Lee has been discussing tipping. Specifically, what happens if you don’t receive one after a great performance.
Here’s what the email said:
If you don’t get a tip, don’t worry…
Even if you gave your all at the table, flash your pearly whites,
like you were posing for a photo-op next to David Copperfield.
Keep in mind that you haven’t wasted your time because, if nothing
else, you’ve brought good magic into people’s lives. (It sounds
corny, but it’s true.)
In fact, shake hands with the “lead” spectator right before leaving
the table. Hold their hand just a hair longer than normal. The other
tables should think he gave you something!
Without making any noise, bury your hand (the one used to shake)
into your pants pocket as if it were filled with money.
Not that it should be a big motion, but others in the surrounding
area might take notice.
This does two positive things:
1) It makes your spectator feel good that you’ve thanked him for
watching.
2) It really emphasizes to everyone else watching at the other
tables, that a tip was given, and that it’s proper etiquette to
give money.
This ultimate answer is a classy, non-abrasive way to pass subtle
hints to everyone in the restaurant. Try it a few times.

The above tip above was taken from David Stone’s new book called ‘Close-up Secrets’.
Less than a year ago, after filming the two hit DVDs The REAL SECRETS OF MAGIC (vol. I and II), France’s master magician wrote a tell-all treatise about living the life of a magician.
This book contains everything he couldn’t say on camera. No need to mention routines and moves, as he feels that you already have enough of them.
Even though David doesn’t teach “effects” in this new book, he leaves no rock unturned, and literally spills every insider secret you could imagine.
He carefully explains that the methodology to how something works is only 1/16 of what it actually takes to be a magician. This book, ‘Close-Up Secrets’, reveals the rest of what you truly need to know.
It has become an instant best seller in France. However, I don’t know about you, but my French is rusty. So David recently had the text translated into English, and then hand-picked Kip Pascal for his keen eye (author of Coin Snatching) to edit the whole manuscript.
Soon this classic French text will be available in English. How soon though?
David says this book will be available for the masses by late July, because it must filter through the dreadfully slow cogs and wheels of mainstream magic distribution.
But because David and I are pals, and he’s been a longtime member of Asher’s Announcements, he specifically made sure you can have the book in your hands first!
You will start to see this book being advertised all over, but rest assured, no one actually has it ready to ship.
Next week, I’ll receive the books – long before your local magic shop or anyone else, though I’ll only have a limited supply.
Reserve your copy of this fantastic book right now by clicking the link below:
David Stone’s Close-up Secrets
They’ll be shipped out to you as soon as they arrive from the printers.
Enjoy.
Cheers,
Lee Asher
…
I have already preordered mine and can’t wait to get my hands on the book.

I’d rather go with Eugene Burgers advice on why not taking tips is the real way to go…and not faking it like you got a tip either.
If you are working restuarants…it is better in the long run to go without tips……give yourself some class….don’t be some slimeball who scams it. but i guess if you are greedy and the only thing you are concerned with is money…than go for it…but you won’t get no respect from me..especially if you get it from an underhanded method….much like a rat.

Yeah :)… The absolute feeling of getting tips is overwhelming….. not meaning being a beggar!
Last time I did a routine of effects, namely card to mouth, tivo transpo, royal assembly and ambitious during a dinner gathering … and as I was a newbie in doing ‘live’ magic (that was my first real performance), I did not really present myself that great….
But at the end of it, i still got big bucks from out of nowhere, from a Swiss!
So yeah.. the feeling of getting tips acts as an accomplishment of some sort :P

I don’t like David Stone’s presentational style at all. If you watch the real secrets of magic, his spectators sometimes look very annoyed at him when he makes corny jokes. Also, his stupid advice for giving tips (like making hints throughout bill switches to give him money) make you come off very sleazily

You look a lot like Roger Federer aswell Alejandro
