Andrei Jikh – Quad Backpack
Posted on: April 29, 2008Impossible…no more.
(The formation of a square from the back of the hand, a technique that was long regarded as impossible is finally a reality.)

good work Andrei for making and sharing some more innovations.
i noticed the packets looked really messy on your vierek, could this be fixed or is it just difficult to make neat? It seems like you would have re-shot to share the best possible performance of it.
This goes to a deeper issue… we get excited to see something that we know is more difficult than a regular method. But the question to ask, is, will the final presentation suffer because of the more difficult/original method of formation?
another example would be the curly-Q fan… while a simple one-handed fan would look a lot more even, some people get very excited over the curlyQ because it’s weird, unusual, difficult, etc. However at the end of the day, it really looks like crap compared to a decent fan!
would be interested to see if you could “clean this up” a bit with some fan pow or maybe just more practice. it’s a cool move.

the point about qurly q is that its more “magical” since there is no apparently move of the fingers. it just happens.
April 29th, 2008 at 6:58 pm
yes but if you open a one handed fan correctly (or close it one handed) , displayed correctly there is no apparant move of the fingers either

hot stuff!

Hey trash,
Comparing the curly Q to a one handed fan is somewhat of a good analogy..however..I have one for you.
Comparing the normal formation of a square to my quad backpack is like comparing a honda civic that gets 25 miles to the gallon to a sports car which gets 10 miles to the gallon….why would you want the sports car if the civic is so much more efficient…and to top things off…it’s still a car..the answer is simple…looks and presentation. Personally I’d have the sports car..if I could afford it if you know what I mean ;)
This technique is NOT the viereck…I would appreciate it if you didn’t refer it as such.
I realize you weren’t around for too long to understand the magnitude of the accomplishment so I fully understand why you’re a bit confused.
This is quite difficult to pull off..especially with a new deck which is impossible..however, with a rightly tuned deck, enough practice, and the proper presentation…it’s damn near impossible to believe that this can be done prior to seeing it. If this is held true for artists for so many years..think what it will do for laymen. In fact, I challenge laymen to make a square with TWO hands …regularly…and 90% of them fail…tell them that you’re going to do it ONE hand…..it kills…..tell them this time on the back with one hand….it just …rapes lol. This performance/presentation style is what I grew up with and I thank De’vo for the inspiration.
Hope this cleared the clouds a bit.

Once again Trashman is being a fucken retard. This move was thought to be impossible till now. This move means alot to the flourishing, if you don’t see that suck on a choed.

well said phil

thanks for the info andrei… i did not think of the build-up possible when presenting it to laymen… from square – to one handed – to back of one handed… I could see how that could rape lol
can you SSS it or does it require holding the sides up with the fingers? and sorry about the vierek technicality, I thought that was the first term for the square-shaped SSS (first place ive seen it at least), is it called different because of the method of formation? I notice you drop the “floor” packet last, whereas the method ive seen in the past builds the “roof” last and drops the floor at the beginning. peace

This is not an SSS, it was never meant to be one and it
was a bad on my part for not letting Daren know that in the editing process.
The term viereck is literally “square” in German, a shape that has been around since time was time hence proving it’s not the most original thing you can come up with given some standard requirments.
The move is called something completely different because it is from my family of backpack cuts, uses a completely different technique, and utilizes the back of the hand. The first of it’s kind. Sorry to burst your bubble, De’vo was not the first.
I’ve never experimented with making it self standing…however I think the difficulty to visuality ratio is too insignificant to bother with.

okay thanx for the info, looking forward to what you come out with next.

Amazing as usual Andrei. Always love watching your unique ideas

I’m sure De’ also has a way to do a back of hand Viereck and other backhand SSS, nevertheless even with out seeing it, you figuring out a method deserves credit, good job. One question however, can you make it look like the Viereck i.e. have the top packet facing back out? In the future I may try to learn this as I already do the SSS Viereck with ease, but thanks for providing a video….

Yes you can make the top packet back out, though to me it doesn’t matter.
I’m sure he can do 30 packet backhand cuts that are published in the D&N book that was released 50 years ago in a language that only the dark shadow masters could read.
Instead of trying to learn this, please wait for the tutorial. Thanks, appreciate it.
